Most car peeps are forever on the hunt for their next car. I’m no different and up until this point it has been pretty easy, as my trend has been newer, faster, nicer, German coupes/sedans.

Then I bought a Honda Grom and now moto is life. So I’m thinking that my next car might look less like an RS3 or M2, and more like a VW GTI or AllTrack + A Husqvarna 701 Supermoto.

Kinja'd!!!

So do any oppo’s know when they are supposed to start selling them/has anyone seen one IRL?

This time last year VW/Audi had all of their next year’s models on their respective websites. This year it seems like they’re slacking.

I talked to a dealer and they said “fall” so expect Q1 of 2017

Hopefully by Christmas. But with all the pent-up demand (anecdotal), I wouldn't be shocked to see these marked up, even while the rest of the lineup sells at discounts. This could be my next car, but I'll probably wait to see how they hold up for a couple years first.

Yeah, its going to be well into summer 2017 by the time these start to get on lots in significant numbers. Frankly, VW has a real chance here to salvage a lot of consumer damage AND dealer damage...they just need to get these puppies on the lots.

I don't think VW is in any position to do mark ups on anything, even the Golf R. The AllTrack could be their saving grace, and they would need volume to get back to full momentum at this point.

Did you tell us this would be a possible candidate for the TDI replacement?

Agree...it’s amazing how their saving grace could be something as simple as “Just give us a car that we’ve been asking for over the past 10+ years.” Not that complicated.

Its the most likely frontrunner, unless we find a suitable XC70

Honestly, I am constantly amazed that no other manufacture could figure out that a huge chunk of the TDI success story was simply that they were the only people offering a 6 speed manual wagon that was affordable. I mean...Subaru...where you been?

Oooooooh, so now you can reach more exotic and inconvenient places for your VW to break down at.

You would think they would be wanting to get your business what with the buyback and all. I would be shocked if they had the cojones to add markup on the first rollout of AllTracks.

Thats my thinking as well...but...they are going to be in high demand and they are hurting for cash...so we’ll see.

Damn straight. The Venn diagram overlap for wagons and TDIs was huge, but it’s hard to say how much of that came from "wagon" or "TDI." I honestly think diesel was just a nice touch — that most people wanted a good wagon. Subaru? They're too busy bloating everthing. I liked their whole portfolio about 5-10 years ago, but can't find anything I really want now.

Exactly yes to all of this. We looked at subarus and were 100% disappointed by everything we saw. I am also in agreement that the TDI thing was just icing on the cake. Frankly, If i could go back and get a TSI that got mid to high 30's freeway, I probably would have bought that one.

I really liked the Jetta wagon (SEL) about 5 years ago. Basically a softer GTI wagon with all the options, but it was pushing low $30k's and was a little too much scratch for too little car. I have a mental barrier of about $25k for these, maybe $27k with leather and panoramic sunroof, etc.

Some of my colleagues attended the press launch for the AllTrack and the rest of the 2017 VW lineup in Seattle this week. I’m guessing driving impressions are embargoed for another day or two, but you should see reviews soon and those will have more info on availability.

I was thinking the same thing, I wanted one of these to replace my TDI, problem is, I drove the sportwagon and was a little unimpressed, and I know that if a sportwagon with good options is on lots for 25-27k I’m looking at 30k + for this and that is just too much when the Passat I bought only ran me 24k with every option ticked

Hmm, yea 30k is getting up there. I’ll be leasing the car, the so the payment is my only concern. I want to stay under $325 per month if I go the car + bike route. My main concern is the performance, I went from DD’ing an E46 M3 to a base Jetta 2.0 and it did not go well (I sold the jetta after 10 months and took a bath on the sale). So S3 to AllTrack would be a similar dip. Also I can lease the GTI for less than 300/month. I’ll have to wait until I can drive an AllTrack.

The alltrack should perform okay, but its no GTI, I have the same 1.8T in my new Passat, feels quick compared to the TDI, but still no fire breather
